Abstract

India is experiencing a rapid and extensive spread of HIV. Every year an increasing number of people are infected or affected by HIV/AIDS. In 1986, official Government reports indicated that only six people were infected with HIV in India, whereas in 2007, UNAIDS and NACO agreed in a new estimate between 2 million and 3.6 million were living with HIV. As the pandemic of HIV infection and AIDS increases, the impact is intensified among children by increasing the number of infected children. Recent estimates from UNAIDS suggest that globally about 2.3 million children younger than 15 yrs of age have HIV.

Abstract

Fasting is common to many religions of the world. In some religions, one food may be substituted for another, in other religions, foods may be abstained from altogether. Other reasons for fasting include weight loss, medical and protest. Muslims fast to fulfill a religious obligation and to earn blessings and rewards of God. The month of Ramzan contains 28 to 30 days.

Abstract

In the global scenario, India has a prime position in pulse production. In the context of widespread protein calorie malnutrition and under nutrition, pulses will continue to be the major source of dietary protein. On account of the balanced amino acid composition of cereal and pulse protein blend, which matches with milk protein, the importance of pulse in vegetarian diet for nutritional food security cannot be over emphasized. Further, pulse crops are also known for the unique role in restoring and building up of soil fertility. Among the grain legume as well as oil seeds, soyabean occupies a unique status.

Abstract

In ancient India sportsmanship and sports ability abounded. Although Indians generally, do not have large, powerful body build, they are nevertheless capable of performing those feats of endurance which are an integral part of an athletic performance. Sound nutrition and a sensible programme of physical activity are two of the chief requirements for health.
